How to use ASF / AMC ?

Hello,
We have troubles in our Team to export animated models from 3dsMax 9 / 2008 or Maya 8.5 into a well working x format. So we would like to use the Acclaim formats. Is it true that I need three files for one Model? -- asf for skeleton information, amc for the animation data and another format like fbx or x for the Model, Texture and skinning data?
I have no Idea how to let the different Files know which other files are belongs to them... is there any description how to use the acclaim data with the animation component?

PS: sorry about my poor english. I hope you understand me anyway.

Yes, this is correct. The asf/amc together create the animation data, but you need another file for the vertices.

okay thx, but that don't solve my problem...
today i found out, which name the asf / amc files must have: if the asf has the name "foo.asf", the name of the amc is "foo_bar.amc".
But I still don't know how to rename the modelfile.
Are there any code modifications required if I want to use asf/ams/(fb)x instead of a single X-File?
